Many tourists, as well as citizens living in Bulgaria on a permanent basis, are quite surprised by the fact that such an antiseptic as Miramistin is not available in pharmacies. With rare exceptions, the drug can be found on sale on the sea coast, or in pharmacies in large cities, but most often pharmacists shrug their shoulders, since they have not even heard of this antiseptic.
Why not?
Few people know that Miramistin was developed in Russia in the early 70s as part of the USSR space program. The scientists coped with the task, the astronauts received an effective remedy, and after some time the drug became widely available. In other words, Miramistin is a completely Russian product that is not produced abroad. That is why it is so difficult to find it on sale in Bulgaria.
Miramistin
Miramistin is one of the most popular antiseptics in the Russian Federation, after iodine and brilliant green, of course. By the way, an analogue of iodine in Bulgaria is the Czech drug Jox. Miramistin is used for the prevention and treatment of bacterial, fungal, and viral diseases of the skin and mucous membranes. As a universal antiseptic, it is used for washing and treating wounds, cuts, and calluses. For colds, it can be used as a spray for the throat and nose.
Miramistin is stored at a temperature of no more than 25 °C
In addition to the antiseptic effect, it also has regenerating properties. Treats the consequences of burns and frostbite. Miramistin is tasteless and odorless, so it is suitable for rinsing for stomatitis and cleaning removable dentures. Has a wide spectrum of antimicrobial action. Miramistin packaging is usually equipped with a spray nozzle for spraying in hard-to-reach places.
Used in the following areas of medicine:
- surgery
- dentistry
- dermatology
- traumatology
- otorhinolaryngology
- urology
Russian analogues
Pharmacists often say that Miramistin and Chlorhexidine are the same drugs. However, this is not entirely true. Chlorhexidine and Miramistin belong to the same category of antiseptic drugs. Miramistin has a slightly wider range of effects compared to chlorhexidine, and also has virtually no contraindications. Miramistin is better at treating skin diseases, and chlorhexidine is good for disinfection. The cost of the drugs also varies: Chlorhexidine - 100 ml/20 rubles, Miramistin - 100 ml/150 rubles. Chlorhexidine is also produced in the Russian Federation, but by diluting a concentrate brought from abroad.
Bulgarian analogues
So, as it turned out, Miramistin is quite rare in Bulgaria, since the production of the drug is located in Russia. However, you can find its analogues on sale - antiseptics based on Chlorhexidine. While the most common dosage form of chlorhexidine in Russia is an aqueous solution, in Bulgarian pharmacies, oddly enough, the drug is most often found in the form of a cream. This is not always convenient if you need to wash a wound or rinse your mouth.
Chlorhexidine URGO. Approximate cost 7.80 levs
One of the variants of Chlorhexidine in its pure form (in Bulgarian ChlorHexidine) is the drug URGO, produced in France. Packaged in 12 plastic ampoules of 5 ml. The drug is colored pink, and therefore there is a possibility of confusing it with Miramistin. But since miramistin and chlorhexidine are very close analogues, there is no danger in this. The company also produces the drug in the form of a spray.
Listerine mouthwash Septadine
For the treatment and prevention of oral cavity, pharmacies in Bulgaria offer an English drug based on Chlorhexidine - Listerine, which usually contains additional substances. Another drug for disinfection and treatment of the oral mucosa is Septadine.
It is worth mentioning the fact that the qualifications of pharmacy staff in Bulgaria do not always correspond to the pharmacist’s position. Be prepared for the fact that most often, upon hearing Russian speech, the seller will try to sell you the most expensive analogue of the drug.
